Phoenix Academy has designed a program that builds a foundation for all students in the many facets of the Chinese Shaolin Martial Arts. The curriculum is designed to introduce students to basic and advanced skills as well as principles and theories for better understanding. Our method of instruction includes physical development using age-old Shaolin conditioning drills, detailed instruction for technique development and philosophy sessions to encourage character development and understanding. Our classes are set-up in a semi-private format and space is limited. We also offer private instruction in the Internal Arts of Taiji Quan and QiGong.
Semi-Private Lesson Programs
-
Junior Southern Shaolin: Children’s Program - This program is intended to give children an opportunity to learn basic martial arts through the development of his/her focus, concentration, self-control, courtesy & respect. The expectation for this student is to develop good learning habits. These learning habits are nurtured through the practice of martial arts, because the level of expectation has a specific goal; “That each student will progress at their own pace, based on their individual ability". The emphasis of this class is not on gaining rank, but instead on developing the child’s ability to learn, cooperate and attain goals. The by-product of this emphasis becomes rank attainment.
-
Southern Shaolin: Teen and Adult Program - There are many styles included in the broad terminology known as Southern Shaolin. Our curriculum includes not only Empty-Hand techniques and Forms, but Weapons training and Two-Man Fighting Sets. The predominant styles utilized in our curriculum are from the Five Animal / Five Family Styles, Wing Chun movements and Qin Na are also blended in to allow for a well balanced experience. Chinese Martial Arts are excellent for strength building, muscle toning, flexibility, aerobic conditioning and very pragmatic self-defense. The joints are not pushed to unnatural extremes, therefore allowing the art to be healthful rather than damaging. Our program will improve conditioning, athleticism and give a solid foundation for Self-Defense skills. All students will learn in an organized and safe environment. Our curriculum has been developed and finely-tuned over years of experience to give the students the tools needed to become a well-rounded Shaolin practitioner.
If interested in participating in classes for yourself or a child, please call to receive information on how to apply for enrollment at Phoenix Academy.

While Taiji Quan is performed slowly and gracefully in order to cultivate internal development and obtain relief from stress, it is also a formidable form of self-defense. Basics are emphasized, as well as a QiGong component that will energize and strengthen. Qi Gong integrates breathe, mental intention and physical movements. QiGong is a form of exercise that allows the practitioner to increase mental relaxation, improve physical well being and become more energized.
