Me and my stepdaughter both attended phoenix Castleford for just over 1 year doing both karate and kickboxing. I found that the classes were well thought out "trust the process" and actually i found it worked also Mr and Mrs Stead were very supportive of my stepdaughter who struggled with kata/techniques and she got there in the end.

I did ask a few times about my 4 year old signing up along with us once she was old enough I was initially told June/July the time came and I brought it up I was told there was no space and would be October/November time fair enough then that time arrives it got to the point where I just stopped asking.

I thoroughly enjoyed the tournaments I took part in kata and sparring i didn't feel like they do much sparring in classes once every 2 weeks except from when tournaments are upcoming unless it's changed since we left i dont know.

All in all the classes were mostly fitness/drilling techniques which in martial arts is massively important i do understand, I feel that they could have done more sparring for those who would want to do it more.

Cost was the main issue is to why we left £78 a month for 1 lesson a week for both of us but after a bit of shopping around we found somewhere that all 3 of us do 2 lessons a week for half the price it would have cost at Phoenix in this economic climate it was a no brainer.

My son has been attending Kick Boxing in Castleford for about 6 months now and loves it. He is thriving and really embraces the classes. Its a welcoming and friendly environment to both the kids and parents with a great combination of fun, discipline and form.

My son has recently started at Phoenix Martial Arts Castlford after been recommend via two of his school friends parents who attend the class. My little boy is full of energy and struggles with his listening skills and can get distracted easily which then leads to him causing distraction to others. He attends a swim class that most of the time he was told off and sat on the side for not listening, so I was very reluctant to sign him up for anymore classes, but I'm glad I did. Since joining my little boy has thrived, he does the class and is not disruptive, is not told off for his behaviour and listens to what Mrs &Mr Stead tells him to do, and this has had an affect on his behaviour at home and even at his swim class where he is no longer disruptive in his lesson, no longer sat on side and is showing improvement on a weekly basis. I can't thank Mrs Stead enough for the support and help that she has provided and continues to provide to me and my son as she had confidence that he would do well in the classes and she was right.

I have been attending the academy for about a year now. I have really enjoyed my time since joining and can only thank Mr & Mrs Stead for all their support. I have not always been the most confident individual but being a part of a community has really brought me out of my shell. I've been attending the adult karate classes for about 3 months and it's always so much fun! Everyone is friendly and have been so welcoming. Mr and Mrs Stead are fantastic instructors. I did not expect to make as much progress as I have in these last 3 months and I could not imagine training anywhere else.

My daughter wanted to start kickboxing for health and self defence, but she has got so much more out of attending. Her confidence has grown, at first she would not stay alone and I stayed with her. Seeing this I was very impressed by the techniques used and the consideration given to all pupils. She now goes in alone and speaks to others in the class. She looks forward to grading and getting the chance of a new belt.
Overall a brilliant community and it's more than physical health that she has achieved 👏

My son has been attending Pheonix martial arts Castleford since May 2023. He had tried multiple other extra curricular activities such as rugby and dance but nothing would keep his interest very long. Right from the beginning Mr and Mrs Stead have always made him feel very welcome, part of the Pheonix family and have been very understanding of his additional needs. He has gone from strength to strength in his kickboxing and still runs into class with the same excitement he had on day one. So much so that he's also began going to Karate lessons too. I couldn't recommend Pheonix martial arts enough, the facilities and instructors are brilliant. My son finally has a hobby he enjoys and it has done wonders for his physical abilities, confidence and behaviour.

I've been training in kickboxing and muay Thai on and off since 2010 and this is by far the most welcoming school I have been to. Mr and Mrs Stead are a fabulous team and made us feel welcome and part of the Phoenix family from day one.

This club is fantastic! I have practised martial arts for about a decade now and seen a range of clubs - this one is one of the best for both beginners and experts alike. The teaching is solid and engaging. In addition the atmosphere is welcoming for all with a great community. I travel from Leeds 4 times a week to take part in both the kickboxing and the karate classes because I enjoy the club so much! I would highly recommend this club as a good place to try out a martial art or continue training if you already have experience!

I joined earlier this year by chance. I'd never really been interested in martial arts, though I wanted to know how to defend myself on the off chance I may need to one day. I've now got my first belt. I'm definitely fitter than I was, and I love going it helps me relieve stress and frustrations in a safe, disciplined environment. Mr Stead is a great tutor, and the music in class is banging.
